Ethics in madness care summer course at KU Leuven, Belgium

Course summary background and objects The number of persons with madness will rise vastly in the times to come. The added frequence of madness and the treatment and care for people with madness present a myriad of important ethical questions and liabilities. What do we suppose of the quality of life of people with madness and of their posterior end of life?

What are the opinions about vulnerability and quality in case of madness? What do we consider to be‘ good care and a good death for persons with madness?

The idea of the course is to foster exchanges on foundational, clinical-ethical, and organizational-ethical approaches to madness care. More specifically, the points of this course are

 (1) To assay abecedarian sundries that enthrall the central stage in the field of madness care ethics ( i.e. colorful sundries of care, the mortal person, vulnerability, and quality). A similar, expansive understanding will be handed into the philosophical and ethical foundations of madness care practices.

( 2) To educate actors on a range of ethical motifs that figure largely in contemporary debates on madness care, videlicet, use of electronic shadowing bias, use of robotics, dealing with sexual expression, advance care planning, euthanasia, and other end-of-life issues. These motifs will be explored from philosophical-ethical and empirical-ethical perspectives.

(3) To introduce actors into a variety of stakeholders’ perspectives on ethics in madness care cases, cousins, nurses, croakers, institutional directors, and society as a whole.

(4) To establish exchange among public and transnational experts concerning ethics in madness care.

Training awards scholarships for master’s programmes in Flanders, Belgium

The Ministry of Education and Training in Flanders awards scholarships to exceptional students from all over the world for master's programs in Flanders and Brussels. The Master Mind Scholarship provides a grant of €10,000 and a waiver of tuition fees per academic year (60 ECTS). Scholarship recipients are only required to pay an administrative enrollment fee.

The grant is disbursed in installments and covers accommodation expenses, insurance, and a significant portion of the student's living expenses. To apply for the scholarship, interested students must first apply to one of the Flemish host institutions participating in the Master Mind Scholarship Program.

Here are some additional details:

- The duration of the scholarship is one academic year for a master's program of 60 ECTS and two academic years for a master's program of 120 ECTS.

- The maximum scholarship amount awarded to incoming students is €10,000 per academic year, as specified in the Payment of the Scholarship section.

- If a student completes a one-year master's program but does not obtain the master's degree by the end of the academic year in 2025 (July or September), the final installment of €1,500 will not be awarded.

- For a two-year master's program, the student must earn at least 54 ECTS in the first academic year in 2025 (July or September) to receive the final installment of €1,500 for the first year and be eligible for the scholarship in the second academic year. More information can be found in the Payment of the Scholarship section.

- Exceptions to these rules can only be granted by VLUHR in agreement with the hosting institution and the Department of Education and Training.

- The host institution may require the applicant to pay a tuition fee equal to the lowest rate of the yearly tuition fee for a student receiving a study grant from the Flemish government. The rate for the academic year 2024-2025 is €131.50, which may slightly increase in subsequent years.

- If a student loses their scholarship, they will be required to pay the full tuition fee if they wish to continue the program.

There are specific scholarships available for students from designated countries: Japan (3), Mexico (3), Palestine (2), and USA (5). These countries hold priority status for the Flemish government. If a scholarship remains unclaimed, it will be awarded to the candidate with the highest ranking determined by the Flemish selection committee. It is important for students not to combine this scholarship with any other scholarships provided by the Flemish government or an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship. After completing their mobility, all students are required to submit an essay and complete a brief questionnaire regarding their experience. Each Flemish higher education institution can accept a maximum of 20 applications.

Scholarships for master's programs in Flanders, Belgium, are awarded by training

Excellent students from all over the world are given scholarships by the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training for master's programs in Flanders and Brussels. A Master Mind Scholarship entitles the recipient to a gift of €10,000 plus the waiver of tuition for one academic year (60 ECTS). Holders of the Master Mind Scholarship just have to pay an enrollment fee.

The stipend, which is given in installments, pays for a sizable portion of their living expenditures as well as the cost of their insurance and housing. The first step in applying to a Flemish host institution that takes part in the Master Mind Scholarship Program is for you to indicate your interest.

INFO

For a master's program with 60 ECTS, the mobility period is one academic year; for a program with 120 ECTS, it is two academic years.
A maximum scholarship of €10,000 is given to the new student each academic year, as per the information provided in the section Payment of the scholarship.

The last €1,500 will not be given to a student who finishes a one-year Master's program but does not receive the Master's degree in July or September of 2025, the conclusion of the academic year.
For a two-year Master's program, completion of the first academic year in 2025 (July or September) requires at least 54 ECTS to be eligible for the final payment of  €1.500 of the first as well as having the right to the scholarship for the following academic year. Further details are available under the scholarship payment section.

Only in consultation with the Department of Education and Training and the hosting institution may VLUHR make exceptions to this norm.
The applicant may be asked to pay a tuition price equal to the lowest annual tuition rate for students who receive a study grant from the Flemish government, at the request of the host school. The price is €131,50 for the 2024–2025 school year. From year to year, this rate might go up a little.

If a student's scholarship is lost, that student will need to cover the entire cost of tuition to continue with the program.
Several scholarships are only available to students from the following nations: the USA (5), Japan (3), Mexico (3), and Palestine (2). The Flemish government considers these nations to be priorities.
The candidate who receives the highest ranking from the Flemish selection committee is the recipient of the scholarship if it is not claimed.
This award cannot be combined with an Erasmus Mundus scholarship or another government scholarship from Flanders.

All students are required to turn in an essay and complete a brief questionnaire regarding their mobility after completing it.
Each Flemish higher education institution may get up to 20 applications.
