Operations for the 2024 McDonald Fellowships are now open

Please read this textbook before continuing

We prompt all aspirants to consider their systems and hosts for the 2024 round. Chancing a host can take several months. Please communicate with our exploration platoon to bandy the content of your exploration offer before you apply, using the Contact Us form, opting for “ Research subventions and awards ”.

Please don't use this contact form if you aren't working in the field of multiple sclerosis. Only operations in the field of multiple sclerosis are considered. Please ensure you have read the full eligibility criteria on this runner before enquiring.

 What's the McDonald Fellowship?

The McDonald Fellowship enables early-career multiple sclerosis experimenters from low- and middle-income countries to work in an exploration institution outside of their own country.

We're open to operations for virtual or original systems to overcome the trip restrictions assessed by the COVID-19 epidemic. During the visit or virtual design, actors either gain moxie or carry out a corridor of common exploration systems.

Following the award, we anticipate aspirants will be suitable to use the recently developed moxie and networks, continuing to take over MS exploration and/ or case care in low- and middle-income countries.

The fellowship consists of a two-time entitlement, around GBP 10,000 per time, to cover trip and living costs, and a fresh donation of 6,000 GBP per time to the host institution. * For 2024 we're more flexible on the use of finances if virtual systems are proposed.

handed that it's safe to travel amid the epidemic, we anticipate that part of the alternate-time entitlement to the host institution will be used to cover the seeker’s charges to attend the periodic congress of ECTRIMS, the European Committee for Treatment and Research.

One Fellowship is awarded in cooperation with ECTRIMS and is known as the MSIF- ECTRIMS McDonald Fellowship.

Another Fellowship is awarded in cooperation with MSF’s member, ARSEP, The Fondation pour l’Aide à la Recherche sur la Sclérose En Pillars. This is known as the MSIF- ARSEP McDonald Fellowship.

 Who's eligible?

 All campaigners must

Be educated to a post-graduate position( at least MSc, rather than PhD/ MD) in an area applicable to multiple sclerosis

Be citizens of a low- or middle-income country( all countries with a low, lower-middle, or upper-middle income as defined by the World Bank)

concentrate their exploration on an area applicable to multiple sclerosis

campaigners must also be in one of the following situations

Working or studying in a low- or middle-income country( all countries with a low, lower-middle, or upper-middle income as defined by the World Bank) at the time of nomination

Working or studying in another country on a design that started within the six months previous to the nomination

Studying in another country on a design supported by an MS International Federation entitlement

campaigners are anticipated to return to their own countries at the end of the study period where they will contribute to advancing care and exploration inMS.

The fellowship may also be used as a supplement for work related to MS by a seeker who has been accepted for training in a recognized institute( within the six months previous to nomination) but who doesn’t have enough plutocrats to cover the total cost.

campaigners and Host administrators are needed to read and subscribe to the Terms and Conditions of the award( see below).

 Expanded eligibility criteria

The 2022 McDonald Fellowship conditions for aspirants have been amended. Due to travel restrictions, we're considering indispensable ways to carry out exploration systems, allowing inflexibility around how the Fellowship is spent and when and where the design would be carried out.

We encourage implicit aspirants to think creatively together with their proposed hosts about implicit results.

 A design may be

 A) in an exploration institute/ sanitarium abroad if trip permits( as in former times)

 B) in an exploration institute/ sanitarium in your home country

 C) a virtual design, either in full or in part with host institution mentoring *

 * virtual systems are only possible if the aspirant and host are suitable to demonstrate how to get sufficient mentorship throughout the design duration.

systems are only accepted if the threat of trip is low; the design can be carried out safely with a minimum threat to the aspirant; there are sufficient coffers and supervision to allow the proposed design to take place; and the design demonstrates sufficient value to the aspirant.

operation forms will be revised to include a question asking the aspirant to write a plan for how to conduct the work or a part of the work if unfit to travel.

The specific Terms and Conditions of the Awards are being drafted and will be communicated as soon as they've been finalized.

The McDonald Fellowships are tentative on commencing no later than the end of 2024.

For further information, including backing with relating possible host institutions, please communicate our exploration platoon using the Contact Us form, opting for “ Research subventions and awards ”.

These conditions will only change for the 2024 Awards round.

Please note

This is a common operation from the aspirant and host. Before nomination, campaigners must have linked a suitable design and host administrator at an institution outside their own country.

 * For 2024, the host can also be linked within the aspirant’s home country or neighboring countries( if trip laws allow it in the country), handed there are sufficient coffers(e.g. outfit, reagents) and mentorship as well as an occasion to learn new moxie and ways.

A design host must be agreed upon before commencing the operation.

The deadline for the host statement is the same as the entire operation June 30, 2024.

 How to apply

MSIF’s McDonald Fellowship panel, which includes scientists and people affected by MS, considers and selects successful campaigners.

What substantiation of results is demanded?

A short report must be submitted at the end of the first time of the fellowship. Alternate-time backing depends on the submission of this report.
