DAAD Scholarships for Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam 2025

You can explore various annual and non-annual DAAD scholarships available for Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

This scholarship scheme presents the opportunity for you to pursue your doctoral studies in Germany. The funding for these scholarships is provided by the German Federal Foreign Office.

Eligibility criteria:

Applicants must possess exceptional qualifications and have completed their Master’s degree or Diplom, or in special cases a Bachelor’s degree, before the commencement of the funding period.

What is covered by the scholarship?

The program covers the expenses for a doctoral project at a state or state-recognized university or a non-university research institute in Germany. This could be either:

- an individual project under the guidance of a university professor (doctoral supervisor)

or

- participation in a structured doctoral study program

Research phases outside Germany can also be funded if they are essential for the successful completion of your doctoral degree. These visits should not exceed one-quarter of the total anticipated funding period. Details about planned visits should be included in your study plan and time schedule in your application documents.

Duration of funding:

The scholarship is granted for a maximum of four years, with the duration being determined by a selection committee based on your project and study plan.

Initially, grants are awarded for up to one year, with extensions contingent upon the successful completion of the previous award period as assessed by the selection committee.

Financial support:

Monthly stipend of 1,300 euros

Coverage for health, accident, and personal liability insurance

Travel allowance

Annual research allowance. Applicants from DAC countries will receive a fixed amount of €460 (€230 in the fourth year); for all other countries, the grant is €260 (€130 in the fourth year).

Under specific conditions, you may be eligible to request the following supplementary benefits after the commencement of funding:

- Monthly rent assistance

- Monthly stipend for accompanying family members. Please refer to our essential information for scholarship candidates/section F, point 3.

In cases of disability or chronic illness: financial aid for additional expenses arising from the disability or chronic illness that are not covered by other funding sources. For more details, please visit our website.

To enhance your language proficiency in preparation for your stay in Germany, DAAD provides the following services:

- Coverage of course fees for an online language program upon receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter

- If necessary: Language course (2, 4, or 6 months) before the start of the research visit in Germany; DAAD will determine the funding for the grantee's participation and duration based on language skills and project requirements. Participation in a language course is mandatory if a scholarship is awarded and the working language at the host institution is German.

- Allowance for a personally selected German language course during the grant period

- Reimbursement of the fee for a TestDaF or DSH exam, which can be taken either in your home country after receiving the Scholarship Award Letter or in Germany during the funding period.
